Maxic has introduced the MTQ5820, a wireless charging transmitter controller that supports the WPC Qi 2.2 standard and can deliver up to 80W of power transfer. The chip is compatible with the BPP, EPP and MPP power profiles defined by Qi 2.2 and also supports a range of proprietary wireless charging protocols. Target applications include smartphones, wearables, automotive wireless charging and industrial electronics.

At its core the MTQ5820 integrates an ARM Cortex-M0 processor with 16KB of SRAM, 32KB of ROM and 64KB of MTP memory, and it accepts a wide 4V to 24V input range. For power control it embeds three N-MOSFET drivers and six pairs of PWM signal generators, with FSK modulation and frequency dithering supporting an external power stage.

The device also integrates two high-side current-sensing circuits, two Q-factor detection circuits and 16-channel ASK/PSK demodulation, operating in both voltage and current mode. These functions support communication between the transmitter and receiver as well as charging-state detection. Wired fast-charge protocols including USB PD, QC, FCP, SCP, AFC and UFCS are supported on the input side.

Further peripheral integration includes a 12-bit 100kSPS SAR ADC, a 12-bit DAC, an 80MHz oscillator and PLL, two UART and two I2C interfaces, plus 3.3V and 1.5V LDOs and hardware under-voltage lockout and over-current protection. For automotive use the part meets AEC-Q100 Grade 1 reliability, with HBM H2 and CDM C3 ESD ratings. It is offered in a 6x6mm QFN48L package and can drive a dual-coil transmitter together with external MOSFETs, resonant capacitors and coils.
