A 60W GaN charger from accessory brand mophie has been tested as activating the AVS fast-charging protocol on the iPhone 18 Pro Max, according to a hands-on report. AVS (Adjustable Voltage Supply) is one of the headline additions to the USB PD 3.2 specification, and the test shows how quickly the new protocol is reaching shipping hardware.
The charger uses a plain white cubic housing with a single USB-C output and folds its pins into the body for travel. Labeling cites 45W continuous constant output and up to 60W peak output, with support listed for PD3.2, AVS, PPS and QC5 across phones, tablets and thin laptops.
Fixed-voltage steps are 5V/3A, 9V/3A, 12V/3A, 15V/3A and 20V/3A. AVS is offered from 9V to 20V at up to 3A, and PPS from 5V to 21V at up to 3A, for a maximum of 60W. Unlike fixed-voltage PD output, AVS allows finer voltage steps so charger and device can match power more precisely.
A DPS (Dynamic Power Scheduling) function adjusts the output strategy to the load, holding 45W constant across the 9-20V range while still permitting 60W peaks. Internally the design pairs a quasi-resonant flyback topology with GaN power devices, which the report links to its size and thermal behaviour.
Measured volume is about 48.2 cm3 - roughly 40.87 mm long with width and thickness near 34.34 mm - giving about 1.24 W/cm3 at 60W. For charger makers, the case illustrates how AVS support and peak-versus-continuous output behaviour are becoming purchasing criteria rather than headline wattage alone.
