Review: 60W GaN Charger Adds PD3.2 SPR AVS for iPhone 18

A 60W single-port charger at 1.1W/cm3, tested at 94.38% peak efficiency with 9-20V AVS coverage and 52W into an iPhone 18 Pro Max.

TORRAS has released the Ice Cube X, model CQ35, a single-port 60W charger built around PD3.2 SPR AVS support. Input is 100-240V at 1.6A, with fixed outputs from 5V to 20V at 3A, AVS at 9-15V/3A and 15-20V/2.25A, and PPS at 5-11V/4A. Protocol support covers QC3.0, FCP/SCP, AFC, PD3.2 and Apple 2.4A.

AVS splits into two versions: EPR AVS under PD3.1 covers 15-48V, while SPR AVS under PD3.2 covers the 9-20V band used by the iPhone 18 Pro series. An Apple 140W adapter with only EPR AVS negotiated the fixed 15V PD step with an iPhone 18 Pro Max, whereas the CQ35 triggered dynamic regulation at 18V and delivered 17.54V/2.97A, or 52.04W. The same unit charged a 16-inch MacBook Pro at 57.84W on 20V.

The topology is a quasi-resonant flyback with ZVS soft switching, where secondary-side reverse excitation lets the primary GaN switch turn on at zero voltage. Efficiency measured 94.38% at 20V/3A and 94.36% at 15V/3A on 220V input, with the 9-20V band above 93.98% and 5V/3A at 85.67%. No-load draw was 0.034W at 220V and 0.025W at 110V.

The aluminium unibody measures 35.97 x 36.64 x 41.44mm for 54.62cm3 and weighs 79.5g, giving about 1.1W/cm3. After one hour at 60W in a 25 degrees Celsius chamber the case peaked at 53.3 degrees Celsius, helped by an internal aluminium layer that spreads heat across the shell. Loaded ripple stayed between 56 and 96mVp-p.

CCC certification was issued on 19 August 2026 under certificate 2026010907865746, valid to 2 March 2031, covering GB 4943.1-2022 and GB 17625.1-2022.
