UFCS and GB 47372-2026 Reshape Power Bank Compliance

China's first mandatory power bank safety standard, GB 47372-2026, takes effect on April 1, 2027, adding nail-penetration tests and UFCS cross-brand charging.

China's charging industry is converging on a three-part framework: a unified interface specification, the UFCS fusion fast-charging protocol, and a new mandatory safety standard for power banks, according to an industry association summary. The stated goal is a single compliant power bank that can fast-charge devices from multiple brands.

Historically, proprietary fast-charging protocols meant one power bank could run at full speed on one brand of phone and fall back to slow charging on another, while uneven product quality led to incidents such as fires and swelling. On the hardware side, standardised physical interfaces remove cable and port mismatch; on the protocol side, UFCS handles cross-brand handshake and power negotiation.

The safety base is GB 47372-2026, the Safety Technical Specification for Power Banks. Published on March 31, 2026, it takes effect on April 1, 2027 and is included as a basis for China's CCC mandatory certification, bringing power banks and portable energy storage under supervision.

The standard tightens intrinsic battery safety: upgraded crush, thermal-abuse and overcharge conditions, added steel-needle penetration and battery-ageing lithium-plating evaluation, mandatory dual protection circuits, key-material and production-process controls, and a unique traceability code on each product. It also adds smart-management requirements covering voltage and temperature monitoring and logging, voltage and capacity adjustment, and automatic disable in abnormal states.

After the April 2027 date, products that do not meet the new standard may not be produced, sold or imported, while compliant products already in circulation can continue to be used. The transition period is where power bank makers are expected to rework cells, protection circuits and traceability data.
